Gloomstein.
In November 2010, Gary Acord was looking at the game "Smiley Heads A Safari" (detailed at the bottom of this page), and became enthused about the gameplay. But the characters were a little bit crude and not quite enjoyable to him to make the game very realistic. Gary had been looking for some game into which to import the Wolfenstein characters and a few of the characters from the wolfmod games he had created. So he thought he would experiment and make a game for his own pleasure. After he made the game, he got to thinking that others might also like it. He hadn't planned to distribute the game himself originally, but then after perusing the ways Doom mods may be distributed, requiring the registered Doom, he discovered an accepted way of distributing this game with his mod changes. Then, he needed a name for the game. He had just created a game called Gloom, and he slapped on the name Gloomstein. Thus, the game was born. Built on the earlier hack game as a base, he added the Wolfenstein characters, Pacman, a character from Heretic, and even used his own Zapper from his Acord games as a statue. The wad could be distributed as an add-on for the registered Doom. Just enter "Doom -file Gloomstn.wad". He has a Play.bat file included with the wad file which says to install the registered Doom into the directory to play the game if you haven't. And, after registered Doom is installed, enter Play.bat and the game will play. The only problem is that on some computers with the registered Doom, the intro demo in the game won't play (it says "wrong game version"), the music isn't quite as clear and has static, and the poor music seems to strain the game and slows it down. If you can, download the original Doom3 hackgame from Dosgamer.com or somewhere, rename Gloomstn.wad to Doom wad and use the .exe file from that game to play the game best.
